THE EARLY YEARS OF THE SOCIETY

The Society was founded in 1947 by Muriel Harrison who continued as President for many years. War time allotments were often still in use but interest was changing to flowers and fruit and the membership began to grow. The first Summer Show was held in 1948 with still a considerable emphasis on vegetables:

Our 70th Anniversary was celebrated with a tea at Boreham House in 2017

Boreham House

September 2017 saw the 70th anniversary of Shenfield Garden Society and to celebrate, the members were invited to attend a special afternoon tea at Boreham House, a grade 1 listed mansion set in 35 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Chelmsford. The house is now used as a conference centre & wedding venue.

After a short history and tour of the house, a delicious tea was served in the Oak Room, which was much enjoyed by everyone present. Following tea, there was time to relax and to explore the garden before the coach left for home. The afternoon proved to be a delightful anniversary celebration for all.
